How is the Academy organized?

The Academy is a modern, knowledge based non-profit organisation with multiple national and international partners based in universities, government and industry around the world. At a global level, it is organised from the Karolinska Institute Science Park in Sweden, which functions as the headquarters for the Academy’s worldwide operations. It marketing and communication activities are organised through its UK office.

International partners include University of Florence, International Hospital Federation, University of Montreal, as well as representatives from commerce, universities and research organisations in Europe, US, Canada, Australia and Korea.

National partners supporting the research program are the Karolinska Institute, Faculty of LIME, Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics in Stockholm as well as researchers and developers from municipalities and regions throughout Sweden.

Dr. Alan Dilani is the director of the Research Center for Design and Health and based in Stockholm at the Karolinska Institute south campus.

The Executive Board, which consists of representatives from our research-based organisations, our corporate partners and other areas of industry, is responsible for the initiation and coordination of all activities of the Academy, as well as for organising the selection of the International Advisory Board and defining its function.

The role of the International Advisory Board is to review and support the activities of the Executive Board, suggesting future activities as well as to inform other members of activities and developments in the field of design and health. The international advisors have a critical function in indicating trends and views on the future direction of the field, contributing research findings of relevance and benefit to industry, and networking among member universities and industry.

The International Advisory Board members are also expected to provide relevant information on research and events from their own region that could benefit both the current activities and future development of the Academy.
