Susan Black

Susan Black is a founding partner of Perkins Eastman Black Architects and a director of Perkins Eastman Architects PC in New York. With over 25 years in the industry her work spans almost every size and type of development on projects across Canada, the United States, China, and the Middle East.

Susan’s planning and design work in the healthcare field has resulted in new innovations and approaches in chronic care, dementia, acute care, and ambulatory services. Susan’s interactive and participatory process with clients and a knowledge based approach to design have been hallmarks of her firm and a significant compliment to her personal expertise in healthcare.

Susan’s is a regular guest speaker at symposiums and conferences in the field of healthcare design and her work has been widely published in architectural, design, and healthcare periodicals. Throughout her career Susan has been active in community and philanthropic organizations and has contributed to a number of projects for low-income and special needs groups, both as a resource to boards of directors and as an architect.


Schooled at the University of Manitoba and the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Ontario, Susan holds a Master’s Degree in Architecture and a diploma in Interior Design. She is a licensed member of the Ontario Association of Architects, a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, a member of the American Institute of Architects, a member of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, and the Society for College and university Planners.
