6th Design & Health World Congress 2009 - Singapore

Mr Khaw Wan Boon,
Singapore Minister for Health
Singapore is one of the most inspiring and pleasurable environments in the Asian-Pacific region, and was carefully chosen to reflect the values of Design & Health and ensure an enriching experience for participants.

The scientific programme offered delegates stimulating topics with a broad range of plenary sessions, technical showcases, posters and an exhibition of the latest innovations in the field, providing a unique opportunity for organisations and delegates to network and present their work.

Sessions included presentations by physicians as well as psychologists, designers, architects, planners, artists, nursing professionals and economists to bring together as wide a range of perspectives on design & health as possible. The rich selection of conference sessions highlighted the importance and value of the interdisciplinary approach.

The congress also provided a great opportunity to meet old and new colleagues and establish new collaborations across national boundaries.

We would like to express our deep appreciation to the Singapore Ministry of Health, Alexandra Health, SingHealth, Singapore Institute of Architects, Singapore Medical Association, the National University of Singapore and all of our partners around the world, which gave their generous support to ensure the success of WCDH 2009.

Dr Ray Pentecost

The topics addressed at the congress included the latest research findings on issues of global significance, including: design quality standards; evidence-based design / research-based design; mental health; restorative justice; senior care; and children and young people’s health.

In addition, the trends and influences on design & health will be considered in sessions covering different global locations, including: the Middle East, China, South East Asia, Europe and the US.
