Design & Health Malaysia 2010
Design & Health Malaysia 2010 is an international symposium and workshop which took place in Kuala Lumpur in partnership with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, from 27-30 September 2010.
The health status of the people of Malaysia has improved significantly since the nation achieved its independence in 1957. Today, the country’s health system is one of the best in the South East Asia region. Internationally recognised measures of the quality and efficiency of a health system show that infant mortality rates in Malaysia had fallen by 2005 to a level comparable with the USA and Western Europe, whilst life expectancy rates have risen to 74 years.
Despite these successes, which have been underpinned by a firm political commitment to universal healthcare coverage, the key to the effective and efficient delivery of Malaysia’s health infrastructure objectives in the future is to build its knowledge and understanding of the planning, design, finance, construction and facility management process through greater exposure to the lessons learned from comparative international health systems, and the use and application of research and evidence.
In a globalised and increasingly interdependent world, the continuous improvement of the quality of life and wellbeing of the citizens of Malaysia will be founded on the recognition that a healthy population is the foundation for social development and economic growth.
Today’s rapid movement of individuals and populations living in ever larger, multi-cultural, urban environments, combined with the equally rapid evolution of the knowledge society means that the world we live in today is one with few boundaries. In the 21st Century, the health of nations is a global issue, and Malaysia’s improving health status is dependent on recognition of its international co-existence.
This international symposium and workshop was attended by 250 delegates invited by the Malaysia Ministry of Health and explored ideas and opportunities to transfer knowledge, exchange new ideas and develop solutions to improve Malaysia’s health infrastructure and the health and wellbeing of its growing population.
