Priority will be given to submissions that include a cost/benefit analysis of the design and its impact on operating costs. Projects should be in design or under construction.
All submissions must address the following:
- Design approach and values: Describe how the design achieves clarity in overall site considerations, building massing, image and organisation, including departmental adjaciencies, orientation & wayfinding that reflects ideas about the hospital of the future.
- Sustainability: Demonstrate how the project sets new standards of attainment in sustainable design to satisfy legislative, technical, financial and moral imperatives, including the integration of sustainable strategies to support energy saving initiatives, maintainability, infection control, reduced operating costs and the achievement of short and long term flexibility and expansion opportunities.
- Health promotion and innovation: Describe any innovative or ground-breaking design approaches or features that support health promotion through the design layout and includes the use of natural materials, with attention paid to public spaces and communal infrastructure to promote physical activity and social interaction.
- Research Methodology: Describe the research being undertaken to inform the facility planning and design. Research that measures the impact of how the design will facilitate operational efficiencies through reduced harm or stress to patients and staff will be given priority. A commitment to share lessons learned through rigourous scientific design research and project evaluation should also be demonstrated.
- Stakeholder engagement: Explain with examples how an inter-disciplinary approach and public consultation from across the community is supporting an integrated process through all stages of the project.
