Criteria
An award for an outstanding acute or non-acute healthcare building where patient-centred considerations are as evident as clinical and managerial priorities.

The project must demonstrate an understanding of the therapeutic effect of a ‘healing’ environment, and show how innovative design permits ongoing flexibility of use, addresses issues of sustainability and has an elevational treatment which recognizes the broader civic context.

Submissions must demonstrate:
  • Clarity in terms of overall site considerations, building massing and image, and general building organization, including optimal departmental adjacencies and requirements for orientation and way finding.
  • Sustainable strategies from ‘green’ initiatives, maintainability and infection control, to the achievement of short and long term flexibility and expansion opportunities.
  • Consideration of clinical functionality and best design practices in the development of a supportive and operationally viable environment, including a description of the planning and organization of each major department
  • A multi-disciplinary approach and client/sponsor collaboration to achieve the integrated requirements and processes of the project while working through planning, design, technical and operational strategies.
  • Initiatives toward the achievement of an environment of wellness and empowerment and show how this environment reflects the culture of the organization and the larger community.
